The Â鶹ÊÓƵ and UK Major Ports Group today held joint discussions with the new Brexit Minister, David Jones MP, at Downing Street today. The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Chairman Rod Lunn and Richard Ballantyne joined their opposite numbers from the UKMPG at the meeting to highlight the important Brexit-related challenges and opportunities for UK ports.

The ports industry is one of the first sectors to meet the new Minister who has recently taken up his role in the newly created Department for Exiting the European Union. On the agenda were a number of possible scenarios following the UK’s departure from the EU. The Associations raised issues such as free trade with Europe, the likely effects of border checks with likely changes on arrangements for customs and immigration procedures.

The Associations also suggested there could be opportunities for new freight, transport, customs and infrastructure investment strategies as well as the prospect of Government reviews existing EU regulations and red tape to help the UK ports industry improve its competitiveness.
